Welcome to Stories of Patryachi Chawl. 

Life is full of surprises and shocks. We call these surprises and shocks as interesting stories. Everybody around us has a story to share, a story of his or her own to narrate, an incident to say and laugh on. But not everyone is equally talented in narrating the stories, penning them down and then further blogging it (just the way I do on my blogs). 

Most of us who are browsing the internet and have visited my blogs do belong to the strata of the society that is far away from the world of people living in same. The intentional use of English language in this blog is to make us; the well-educated, well-cultured white collared people, see the lives of some extraordinary people living in a slum. Their stories would not be like yours and mine. Because their stories will have hunger, struggle for existence, everyday problems and so many things at their core. Their stories are stories of success, but they are more about stories of common lives. 

Through this blog, I would like to pay my tribute to the slum that helped me in growing into a responsible citizen, and the people living in that slum who infused their hopes and dreams in me. 'Stories of Patryachi Chawl' is a collection of stories of characters from this chawl. They are usually unusual character by all means. 

Once again welcome to the world of lives in a slum.

My childhood belonged to the 90s movie era. Why I am connecting my childhood with the 90s era and its memory and nothing else has a reason. We 90s kids (if not ‘we’ at least ‘I’) grown up watching movies where love blooms in the college between the hero and the heroine. The hero will do N number of things to impress the heroine (things include singing and dancing for her, physically teasing her, doing pranks, proposing in front of the whole college on the college sound system and so on). The hero usually would belong to the poor class family with mother sewing clothes on the sewing machine, coughing, wearing white saree (come on she is a widow), and the heroine would belong to a rich family where she could buy anything. Episode 1: The Prologue

The conversation between that father and his younger son had heated up that night. Mother was sobbing in the corner of that 8 x 8 sq.ft. kitchen-cum-bedroom space, filled with a Godrej almirah having a broken glass, an iron casted rack to keep plates and pans, a kerosene stove- their need in an emergency, kept on the floor. The conversation didn’t seem to end without any result that day, because the father was drunk and the son fed-up, not of his father’s drinking, but of himself. “Don’t you want to go to school? Don’t you want to be someone?” Father shouted while staring angrily in those moist but stubborn eyes of his son. “I am asking you something. Don’t be a stone. Answer me.” His voiced raised more.
